Our priorities are;
- Person centred support for victim and witnesses
- Prevention of crime and rehabilitation of offenders
- An effective criminal justice system
We will also engage nationally to shape debate and influence decision making.
Our success will be the delivery of efficient and effective criminal justice processes for all, that are fair, consistent, and transparent.
Our Structure
There are three LCJB subgroups which deliver the work on behalf of the board
Victims and Witnesses
We want victims and witnesses to feel fully supported during their criminal justice journey in Northumbria. We will do this by adopting a victim focused approach which incorporates lived experience, to provide co-ordinated end to end care and support for victims that meets their individual needs.
Prevention and Rehabilitation
We want to deliver early intervention strategies with offenders to divert them from the criminal justice system, maximising the opportunity to prevent reoffending and deliver timely criminal justice outcomes for victims. Two of the ways we will achieve this is through Integrated Offender Management (IOM) and Out of Court Resolutions (OoCR).
Performance
We want the timely and effective progression of cases through the criminal justice system and to increase confidence in the criminal justice process. By working collaboratively and adopting a whole system approach we aim to provide greater certainty for victims, support victim retention and deliver swift criminal justice outcomes.
Success
Our priorities are ambitious but will have the greatest impact locally. We will work diligently to deliver on our priorities and monitor progress at every board meeting.
As well as our local focus we will engage nationally to shape debate and influence decision making so that our communities can be confident in their criminal justice system.
